HeartBug Heart Monitor

The 28-day HeartBug monitor is a wearable ECG device designed to detect intermittent or infrequent heart rhythm abnormalities over an extended period. It continuously records the heart’s electrical activity and also allows you to trigger a recording during symptoms such as palpitations, dizziness or fainting, which significantly improves diagnostic yield compared with shorter monitors.

This form of long term ambulatory monitoring is particularly valuable for capturing arrhythmias that may not be detected with routine testing. The device is discreet, lightweight and designed to be worn comfortably throughout normal daily activities, including work and sleep. The data collected is reviewed by a cardiologist to identify clinically significant rhythm disturbances and inform further management.

Why choose a 28-day monitor

  • Records for up to a month, so it is far more likely to capture infrequent symptoms
  • You can mark the exact moment you feel a symptom
  • Well suited to unexplained palpitations, dizziness or fainting
  • Improves detection of atrial fibrillation, important for stroke prevention

Is this test right for you

The HeartBug is ideal when your symptoms are occasional, for example a few times a month, since a 24 hour test would likely miss them. It is also useful after a stroke of unclear cause, where detecting hidden atrial fibrillation can change treatment.

What to expect

A small device is applied to your chest and worn continuously. You go about your normal life, including showering as advised for the specific device, and press the trigger when you feel a symptom. At the end of the monitoring period the recording is reviewed by a cardiologist.

For referring doctors

Extended monitoring meaningfully increases diagnostic yield for infrequent palpitations, unexplained syncope, and cryptogenic stroke work up where shorter Holter studies were unremarkable. Symptom rhythm correlation and full disclosure analysis are reported by a cardiologist.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a Holter monitor?
A Holter usually records for 24 to 72 hours, while the HeartBug records for up to 28 days, so it is better for symptoms that happen only occasionally.
Is the device visible under clothing?
It is discreet and lightweight, and most people wear it comfortably under normal clothing at work and during sleep.
What do I do when I feel a symptom?
You press the trigger to mark the recording and note what you felt, which helps the cardiologist match your symptom to your heart rhythm.
Can I wear it for the full 28 days?
Yes, it is designed for extended wear, and the care team will explain how to look after the device.
Why does longer monitoring matter?
Some important rhythms, including atrial fibrillation, come and go. Monitoring for longer improves the chance of catching them so they can be treated.
